UNISDR Disaster Risk Reduction Report Launch & Conference Presentation

The UNISDR launches a Global Assessment Report on Disaster Risk Reduction (GAR report) yearly (UNISDR website). In 2011 the visualization I produced was presented at the launch for this report. The Total Number of People Affected & Killed for Water-Related Natural Disasters is an information graphic provides a visual reference for data previously only depicted in numeric spreadsheets provided by scientists and governments. It shows the alarming number of people affected and killed by predictable events (storms, floods and droughts) and avoidable consequences, revealing the countries most in need of disaster recovery resources. Countries were ranked by the United Nation’s Human Development Index (HDI ranking), this allows delegates to view the most at risk countries and their recorded numbers for these events. There was over 2,000 UN delegates at this launch.

I am currently still trying to work out how to get MailChimp subscriber forms onto my site as it’s WordPress is proving to be a challenge! In the meantime if you would like to be added to my mailing list please email me: info@rhiannonfox.com or through the contact page. 🙂
